Introduction to Expert Work Types

OnFrontiers offers three types of expert work: Video Consultations, Written Responses, and Scoped Engagements. The type you choose changes who you contract with, how you are charged, and what rights you get in the result.

If you subscribe through an Order Form, the updated Standard Terms apply from your next renewal or new Order Form, unless you adopt them sooner. Pro Subscriptions are governed by the updated terms from the effective date in the ordinary course of the subscription.

Video Consultation

A scheduled video or telephone call in which an expert provides professional information or advice. OnFrontiers handles matching, scheduling, hosting, recording and transcription, and delivery of the work product. The expert provides the advice as an independent contractor of OnFrontiers, and no separate agreement between you and the expert applies.

Use it to validate a hypothesis, get a fast read on a market or program, or brief a team before a meeting.

Written Response

A written deliverable prepared by an expert in response to your question or defined scope, delivered through the Platform at the fixed fee stated when you order it. Similar to Video Consultations, the Expert provides this service as a contractor to OnFrontiers.

When a Written Response is delivered you have the review period stated in the order, or 14 days if the order states none, to accept it or reject it with reasons. If you do neither, it is deemed accepted at the end of that period, and OnFrontiers tells you so conspicuously on delivery. You may reject it only for material non-conformity with the scope you stated. Unless the order says otherwise before the expert accepts it, the expert has one opportunity to cure. You can also appoint OnFrontiers' quality-control function as the acceptor, in which case its decision is determinative and the deemed-acceptance rule does not apply.

Use it when the questions are well defined, a conversation is not necessary, and you want something you can circulate.

Scoped Engagement

A defined project or assignment performed under an Engagement Order and governed by the Engagement Terms. This one works differently: you contract directly with the expert under the Expert-Client Agreement, and the expert works as your independent contractor. OnFrontiers runs the platform, vetting, conflicts screening, and hours approval, and settles payment to the expert.

You pay the Expert Fee for each approved hour, plus OnFrontiers' Platform Fee, which is disclosed to you separately. The per-hour Expert Fee may be tiered so it decreases as approved hours accumulate; the rates and the cumulative-hour thresholds are set out in the confirmed Engagement Order. Charges cannot exceed the not-to-exceed amount in that order unless you confirm an amended one.

Hours you neither approve nor dispute within your account's review window, which is never less than five business days, are deemed approved.

Use it for multi-session work with deliverables, where the scope needs defining up front.

Other arrangements

Per approved hour is how Scoped Engagements are priced on the Platform. If your work needs a different arrangement, email hello@onfrontiers.com and we will look at what we can do.

Content Elections apply to two of the three

When you order a Video Consultation or a Written Response, you confirm a Content Election stating how the resulting content is treated, your rights in the work product, and the charges. Confirming it on the Platform is binding and no separate signed document is required. Your Order Form can carry default elections so ordering stays one click. Scoped Engagement work product comes to you under the Expert-Client Agreement instead.

Opportunity calls

An opportunity call is an introductory conversation used to scope larger work. It is not one of the three expert work types, and experts are not paid for it.
